(3) ADMITS AT LEAST 2 BUT NOT MORE THAN 8
INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE UNRELATED.

(C) "HOSPICE CARE PROGRAM" MEANS AN ORGANIZED,

MEDICALLY DIRECTED, INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAM FOR MEETING
THE SPECIAL PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL, SOCIAL, AND
ECONOMIC NEEDS THAT ARISE DURING THE FINAL STAGES OF
ILLNESS, DYING, AND BEREAVEMENT, BY PROVIDING PALLIATIVE AND
SUPPORTIVE CARE:

(C) "HOSPICE CARE PROGRAM" MEANS A COORDINATED,
INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAM FOR MEETING THE SPECIAL PHYSICAL,
PSYCHOLOGICAL, SPIRITUAL, AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF DYING
INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES, BY PROVIDING PALLIATIVE AND
SUPPORTIVE MEDICAL, NURSING, AND OTHER HEALTH SERVICES
THROUGH HOME OR INPATIENT CARE DURING THE ILLNESS AND
BEREAVEMENT:

(1) TO INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NO REASONABLE
PROSPECT OF CURE AND, AS ESTIMATED BY A PHYSICIAN HAVE A
LIFE EXPECTANCY OF LESS THAN 6 MONTHS; AND

(2) TO THE FAMILIES OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS.

(D) "HOSPICE CARE SERVICES" MEANS ANY SERVICES THAT A
HOSPITAL, RELATED INSTITUTION, HOME HEALTH AGENCY, HOSPICE,
OR OTHER LICENSED FACILITY PROVIDES UNDER A HOSPICE CARE
PROGRAM.

[(c)] (E) "License" means a license issued by the
Secretary to operate a hospice.

15-127.

THE DEPARTMENT MAY PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT, UNDER THE
MARYLAND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, FOR SERVICES PROVIDED
BY A HOSPICE CARE FACILITY PROGRAM, AS DEFINED IN § 19-109
19-901 OF THIS ARTICLE.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of Sections 1 and 2 of this Act adding Article
48A, §§ 361E, 470Q, and 477W of the Code and § 19-703(c) of
the Health - General Article shall apply only to contracts
issued on or after July 1, 1982.

SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1982.
