(Senate Bill 198)

AN ACT concerning

Inmates - Diminution of Sentence

FOR the purpose of providing that good conduct credits and
credits for work and education accrue from a certain
date; providing for the restoration of forfeited good
conduct credits and for the promulgation of rules by
the Commissioner of Correction governing restoration of
good conduct credits; making certain style, numbering,
and wording changes; and providing generally for the
diminution of sentences of inmates incarcerated in
detention facilities.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

700.

(a)  Subject to the provisions of § 127A of Article 41
of [the Annotated] THIS Code, [of Maryland,] each [prisoner
in any of said institutions] INMATE COMMITTED TO THE CUSTODY
OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CORRECTION is entitled to a
diminution of the period of [his] THE INMATE'S confinement
[under the following rules and regulations:] IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION.

(b)  For each calendar month [commencing on the first
day of the month next after his arrival at the institution,]
during which [he] THE INMATE is not guilty of a violation of
[the] APPLICABLE RULES OF discipline [or any of the rules
thereof] and labors with diligence and fidelity when the
