LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 240

In the introductory language of subsection (a) of
this section, "raw" is new language added to
clarify that the standard applies to raw milk.

In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the former
word "unaltered" is deleted as included in
"unadjusted".

In the introductory language of subsection (b) of
this section, "pasteurized" is added to state
expressly what formerly was only implied in the
phrase "when processed or offered for sale by a
processor or distributor" -- i.e., that the
standard applies to pasteurized milk.

The Commission to Revise the Annotated Code calls
to the attention of the General Assembly the
omission, in both this section and former Article
43, § 570(v), of references to skimmed milk or
other low fat milk. The General Assembly has
established standards for condensed skimmed milk.
See § 4-425 of this subtitle. The General
Assembly also may wish to establish standards for
noncondensed skimmed milk or other noncondensed
low fat milk. The Secretary has established
standards for skimmed milk and other low fat
milk. See COMAR 10.15.06.01 w, cc.

4-423. STANDARDS FOR CREAM.

(A)  IN GENERAL.
CREAM SHALL:

(1)  BE SEPARATED FROM MILK; AND

(2)  CONTAIN AT LEAST 18 PERCENT MILK EAT.

(B)  OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS.

CREAM MAY CONTAIN INGREDIENTS THAT OTHERWISE ARE
PERMITTED BY LAW.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Article
43, § 570(x).

4-424. LABELING OF MILK PRODUCTS GENERALLY.

AFTER THE MILK PRODUCT HAS BEEN PROCESSED, EACH MILK
PRODUCT SHALL BE LABELED WITH:

(1) THE DESCRIPTION OF THAT MILK PRODUCT UNDER
THIS SUBTITLE OR THE RULES AND REGULATIONS ADOPTED UNDER
