Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(g) The Sheriff of Caroline County shall receive a
salary of [$17,500] $20,000 and an allowance for mileage in
connection with his official duties and for boarding and
keeping prisoners at the county jail. He shall appoint a
deputy, at a salary of at least $2,800, and a matron-cook
for the county jail, at a salary of at least $2,500. He may
appoint additional deputies with the approval of the County
Commissioners as to number and compensation; the County
Commissioners of Caroline County may increase the salary of
the Sheriff, his deputies, and other employees in accordance
with Article III, § 35 of the Constitution.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Sheriff of Caroline County in office on the effective date
of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the
salary of the Sheriff of Caroline County shall take effect
at the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1982.
