SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 25 - County Commissioners

51.

(j) (1) The county treasurer of Garrett County shall
receive an annual salary of at least [$12,000] $18,000.
Subject to the approval of the County Commissioners, the
county treasurer shall appoint a deputy treasurer. It is
further provided that when and at such time as the county
treasurer shall determine that he is in need of additional
assistance, the County Commissioners shall provide the
additional employee or employees required and shall pay such
employee or employees a salary which shall be determined by
the County Commissioners.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Garrett County treasurer in office on the effective date of
this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the
salary of the Garrett County treasurer shall take effect at
the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

(House Bill 982)

AN ACT concerning

Garrett County - State's Attorney's Attorney and
Assistant State's Attorney Attorneys

FOR the purpose of increasing the Garrett County State's
Attorney's and the assistant State's attorney State's
attorneys' salaries; providing that these increased
salaries shall take effect at the beginning of the next
following term of office of the State's Attorney, and
providing that the State's Attorney is a full-time
position in Garrett County a certain time; providing
that the Garrett County State's Attorney's position
shall be a full-time position at the beginning of the
next following term of that office; and providing for
