LAWS OF MARYLAND
Ch.8
REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language that
combines without substantive change Art. 43, §
860(c), (d), and (e) — which defines "social
worker", "social work", and "social work
practice".
The reference to "social worker", "social work",
and "similar designation" in the definition of
"social worker" in present Art. 43, § 860(c) are
deleted as duplicative of provisions in present
Art. 43, § 859(b), which now appears in § 18-402
of this title.
The definition is stated in the infinitive form
to permit minor verb variations of the defined
phrase, without taking these variations out of
the scope of the definition.
In item (3)(ii) of this subsection, the word
"persons" is added to state expressly that an
individual practices social work by helping
"persons" as well as communities and groups.
"Person" is defined in § 1-101 of this article
and includes a "corporation".
(F) SOCIAL WORKER.
"SOCIAL WORKER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PRACTICES
SOCIAL WORK.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to provide an express definition of "social
worker"; it is stated in the standard form used
to define the various health practitioners
regulated under this article.
The defined term "social worker" in present Art.
43, § 860(c) now is incorporated in the
definition of "practice social work" in
subsection (e) of this section.
REVISOR'S NOTE TO SECTION: In revising this section,
the Commission to Revise the Annotated Code
deleted as unnecessary present Art. 43, § 860(f)
and (g), which defines "financial interest" and
"household member", in light of the definitions
of "household member" and "substantial financial
interest" in § 1-101 of this article.
18-102. LEGISLATIVE POLICY.
(A) LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FINDS THAT THE PROFESSION OF
SOCIAL WORK PROFOUNDLY AFFECTS THE LIVES AND HEALTH OF THE
PEOPLE OF THIS STATE.
