graduates, while the present law might appear to
grant chiropractic graduates a perpetual
exemption from this title, it must be understood
that this part of the osteopathy law was passed
in 1914 before a licensing mechanism existed for
chiropractors. Therefore, after 1920, when the
chiropractic licensing act was passed, the main
rationale for this exemption disappeared. The
General Assembly may wish to consider the
deletion of the chiropractic exemption from this
section.

SUBTITLE 2. STATE BOARD OF OSTEOPATHIC EXAMINERS.

11-201. BOARD ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A STATE BOARD OF OSTEOPATHIC EXAMINERS IN THE
DEPARTMENT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as the
first sentence of Art. 43, § 467(a).

It is set forth as a separate section for
emphasis.

The word "State" is added to achieve uniformity
among the names of the health occupation boards
that this article governs.

The only other changes are in style.

11-202. MEMBERSHIP.

(A)  COMPOSITION.

(1)  THE BOARD CONSISTS OF SIX MEMBERS.

(2)  OF THE SIX BOARD MEMBERS:

(I)  FIVE SHALL BE LICENSED DOCTORS OF
OSTEOPATHY; AND

(II)  ONE SHALL BE A CONSUMER MEMBER.

(B)  APPOINTMENT — PRACTITIONER MEMBERS.

(1) THE GOVERNOR SHALL APPOINT THE PRACTITIONER
MEMBERS, WITH THE ADVICE OF THE SECRETARY, FROM A LIST
SUBMITTED TO THE SECRETARY AND TO THE GOVERNOR BY THE
MARYLAND OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION. THE LIST SHALL:

(I) BE SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT AND
SECRETARY OF THE MARYLAND OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION AND UNDER
THE SEAL OF THE ASSOCIATION; AND

(II) CONTAIN THE NAMES OF THE MEMBERS IN
GOOD STANDING OF THE MARYLAND OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION WHO
