MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

re-enact the Charter of said Town of Snow Hill as set forth
in Sections 343 to 393 inclusive, of the Worcester County
Code, .1957 edition, title: "Snow Hill", the said Sections
being the Charter of the Town of Snow Hill.

Whereas, the present Charter of Snow Hill was
originally enacted by the General Assembly in the Laws of
Maryland, Public Local Laws 1888, Article 24, Section 237,
et. seq., as amended;

Whereas, this Charter has served the Town of Snow Hill
as a basic instrument of government for 90 years;

Whereas, the needs of the Town require a more modern
document to help meet the contingencies of modern life;

Whereas, this historic document is insufficient in its
present form and language to enable the Town to properly
carry out its mandated functions;

Whereas, a new and modern Charter has been proposed by
the Snow Hill Mayor and Councilmembers;

[Sections 343 to 393 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Worcester County, 1957 Edition, repealed and Sections 1
to 108 of the Charter of the Town of Snow Hill, Worcester
County, added.

Effective Date October 29, 1980]

RESOLUTION NO. R3-80

CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 1-80

RESOLUTION of the Town Council of the Town of Somerset
adopted pursuant to the authority of Article XI-E of the
Constitution of Maryland and Section 13 of Article 23A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland to amend Sections 83-20,
83-37, and 83-88 of the Charter of the Town of Somerset as
it appears in the Montgomery County Code (1972) so as to
increase the maximum penalties for violations of the Charter
or ordinances, resolutions, rules, and regulations of the
Town passed thereunder to the greater of (a) such penalties
as may be authorized by State law or (b) penalties of a fine
not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment
for not exceeding ninety (90) days, or both such fine and
imprisonment, and to eliminate obsolete language concerning
appeals and trial magistrates.

[Section(s) 83-20, 83-37, and 83-88 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Montgomery County, (1972 Edition),
repealed and reenacted, with amendments.
