HARRY HUGHES, Governor
293
Subsection (b)(2) of this section is new language
added to clarify that three distinct licenses are
issued under this title — one for a registered
nurse, one for a licensed practical nurse, and
one for a licensed nurse midwife.
In subsection (b)(3) of this section, the
specific reference to the certification of a
nurse midwife or certified nurse practitioner is
deleted as unnecessary in light of the broader,
general "any certification".
For the authority of the Board to certify
specialties, see § 7-205(3), (4), and (5) of this
title.
For additional provisions relating to individuals
licensed to practice midwifery see Subtitle 6 of
this title, "Special Licensed Nurse Midwife
Provisions".
7-308. SCOPE OF REGISTERED NURSE LICENSE.
A LICENSE TO PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSING AUTHORIZES THE
LICENSEE TO PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSING WHILE THE LICENSE IS
EFFECTIVE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 43, §
297(b), as that provision applies to the practice
of registered nursing by a registered nurse.
7-309. SCOPE OF LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE LICENSE.
(A) IN GENERAL.
SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION, A LICENSE TO
PRACTICE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING AUTHORIZES THE LICENSED
PRACTICAL NURSE TO PRACTICE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING WHILE
THE LICENSE IS EFFECTIVE.
(B) TEAM RELATIONSHIP.
(1) THE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE IS A RECOGNIZED
MEMBER OF THE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TEAM AND PERFORMS AN
INTEGRAL PART OF NURSING.
(2) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN THE RULES AND
REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD ADOPTED UNDER § 7-205 OF THIS
TITLE, A LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE MAY PRACTICE LICENSED
PRACTICAL NURSING ONLY IN A TEAM RELATIONSHIP WITH AT LEAST
ONE LICENSED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL WHO IS NOT A LICENSED
PRACTICAL NURSE.
(C) ADMINISTERING TREATMENT OR MEDICATION.
