Section 948 through 951, inclusive, and 949 to be under
the new subtitle "Women, Infants, and Young
Children"

Annotated Code of Maryland

Preamble

. The General Assembly finds that a substantial number of
pregnant women, infants, and young children are at risk in
respect to their physical and mental health by reason of
poor or inadequate nutrition or health care, or both. In
addition, the General Assembly acknowledges the existence of
a federal program assisting pregnant women, infants, and
young children. However, this program is not providing
sufficient resources to adequately cover its intended
recipients.

It is, therefore, the purpose of the State program
study established by this Act to provide additional
resources for supplemental foods and nutrition education for
eligible pregnant women, infants, and young children; now,
therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

WOMEN, INFANTS, AND YOUNG CHILDREN

948.

(A)  FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SUBTITLE, THE FOLLOWING
TERMS HAVE THE MEANINGS INDICATED.

(B)  "DEPARTMENT" MEANS THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND
MENTAL HYGIENE.

(C)  "FEDERAL PROGRAM" MEANS THE "CHILD NUTRITION ACT
OF 1966", (PUBLIC LAW 89-642, AS AMENDED).

(D)  "LOCAL AGENCY" OR "LOCAL AGENCIES" MEANS A COUNTY
HEALTH DEPARTMENT OR AN APPROPRIATE AGENCY WITHIN A COUNTY.

(E)  "PROGRAM" MEANS THE A THERAPEUTIC NUTRITION
PROGRAM FOR PREGNANT WOMEN, INFANTS, AND YOUNG CHILDREN.

(A) THERE IS A SHALL BE A STUDY, ON THE THERAPEUTIC
NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR NEEDED BY PREGNANT WOMEN, INFANTS, AND
YOUNG CHILDREN, WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL
HYGIENE.
