(House Bill 1549)

AN ACT concerning

Montgomery County - Discriminatory Real Estate Practices

MC 245-81

FOR the purpose of prohibiting in Montgomery County certain
discriminatory practices by real estate brokers against
persons with certain handicaps.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 56 - Licenses

Section 230E(a), (d), and (e)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1979 Replacement Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 56 - Licenses

230E.

(a) The purpose of this section is to provide for fair
and equal real estate housing practices and opportunities in
Montgomery County for all its citizens, regardless of race,
color, religion, sex, marital status, HANDICAP AS DEFINED IN
ARTICLE 49B, § 19 OF THIS CODE, or national origin, and to
that end to prohibit certain discriminatory real estate
practices with respect to housing in order that the peace,
health, safety, prosperity and general welfare of all of the
citizens of the county may be protected and insured. This
section shall be enforced by the Maryland Real Estate
Commission.

(d) It is unlawful for any real estate salesman, agent
or broker to refuse to show any residential property, for
sale or for rent, to any person because of that person's
race, color, religion, sex, marital status, HANDICAP AS
DEFINED IN ARTICLE 49B, § 19 OF THIS CODE, or national
origin, or because of the composition or character of the
neighborhood in which such property is situated.
