	\| who p^rsecutes as well for Said Soveraigne Ladÿ the Queen as for himselfe of
	a plea y^t he rend^r. unto S^d Soveraigne Ladÿ the Queen and the S^d John Sallter two
	thousand pounds of tobacco which to our Soveraigne Ladÿ y^e Qⁿ. & y^e afs^d Jn^o

      And whereupon y^e S^d Jn^o Sallter who p^rsecutes as well for S^d Ladÿ y^e Qⁿ. as for himselfe bÿ xtpher
      Phillipson his att^rÿ Saith y^t whereas att a Session of assemblÿ begun & held att y^e Towne &
      and Port of Annapolis y^e 27^th Daÿ of June & Ended Julÿ y^e 22^d in y^e 11^th year of y^e reigne of our Late —
      Sov^rgne Lord King W^m. the third of England &c^a an^oq Dñi 1699 his Excellÿ Natt^ll. Blackiston Esq^r
      being then Gov^rn^r &c^a It is then and there amonst other things Enacted y^t noe p^rson whatsoev^r
      Shall trade, barter, Comerce, or anÿwaÿs Deal w^th anÿ Serv^s whether hired or Indented or Slave
      belonging or appertaineing to anÿ Inhabitants w^thin this Province w^thout Leave or lÿcence
      first had & obtained from Such Serv^ts master mistress Dame or overseer for his Soe Doeing;
      under y^e penaltÿ of two thousand pounds of tobacco, the one halfe to his then majestie for—
      Support of y^e Gov^rm^t; y^e other halfe to y^e master mistres, or true owner of Such goods Soe
      purloÿgned bartered or Convoÿed awaÿ, when proved bÿ Suffc^t. wittnesse or Confession of y^e
      partÿ to be recov^red in anÿ Court Court of this Province bÿ accõn of Debt, bill, plaint or
      Information whereino noe [illegible] protection or wager of Law to be allowed; as in y^e afs^d
      act of assemblÿ now in force, amongst other things more fullÿ is Contained; never=
      theless The afs^d John Nichoalson The act of assamblÿ afs^d in noe wise weighing or
      Considering, Nore y^e puñishm^ts in y^e Same Contained in noe wise fearing Did upon the
      thirty first Daÿ of agu^t an^oq Doñi 1704 att Kent Countÿ afs^d w^thin the Jurisdiction
      of this Court, barter and Deal w^th |Buÿ and receive from ) a Certaine negroe Slave be=
      longing to the S^d John Sallter Comõnlÿ Called and Knowne bÿ y^e name of Black
      George for one bottle of rum^e vallue three Shills Ster^g and one busshell of
