5. All vehicles or combinations of vehicles
which weigh in excess of 73,280 pounds, and which
otherwise comply with the provisions of this
Executive Order, may cross all bridges in this
State unless signs are posted by the State
Highway Administration or appropriate local
authorities, in accordance with the provisions of
Subtitle 2 of Title 24 of the Transportation
Article, which restrict the weight of vehicles
permitted to cross.
6. All powers and authority granted to the State
Highway Administration or the local authorities
by Subtitle 2 of Title 24 of the Transportation
Article to regulate or restrict the weight of
vehicles permitted to drive on highways, bridges,
or culverts under their jurisdiction remain in
full force and effect and subject to all of its
provisions with the exception of Section
24-204(c). To the extent that Section 24-204(c)
places a limitation on the length of time which
the State Highway Administration or the local
authorities may impose weight restrictions, it is
not to be given effect.
7. All vehicles or combination of vehicles
currently registered for a gross weight of 73,280
pounds or more in Maryland or any other
jurisdiction are eligible to operate at a maximum
of 79,000 pounds gross weight on the highways of
this State in accordance with the terms of this
Executive Order. The Motor Vehicle
Administration may issue temporary registration
certificates, without charge, for up to 79,000
pounds gross weight to eligible Maryland
registered vehicles or combination of vehicles to
provide proper registration credentials for
operating in jurisdictions other than Maryland.
8. A loading error or tolerance of 1,000 pounds
over a weight limit set forth in this Order is
allowed and only weight in excess of this
tolerance is a violation.
9. Any person who violates a weight limit under
this Order is guilty of a misdemeanor. The fine
is the greater of 6 cents for each pound of
