EXECUTIVE ORDERS

and welfare of the people of this State; and

WHEREAS, Further, the adjustment of the weight limitations
will allow an additional eleven hundred (1,100) gallons
of gasoline per tank truck to be transported into
Maryland and similarly will allow additional diesel
fuel and home heating oil to be transported per tank
truck; and

WHEREAS, There continues to exist a long term energy supply
crisis for which conservation offers a significant
method for ensuring the adequacy of available energy
supplies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY
ARTICLE II OF THE CONSTITUTION OF MARYLAND, ARTICLE 41,
SECTION 15B OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND (1978
REPLACEMENT VOLUME, AS AMENDED), AND BECAUSE I AM
ADVISED AND INFORMED THAT THE FOLLOWING IS REASONABLE
AND NECESSARY IN VIEW OF THE SITUATION OF EMERGENCY,
DUE HEREBY PROMULGATE THE FOLLOWING EXECUTIVE ORDER:

1.  The maximum gross weight of vehicles or
combinations of vehicles may not exceed 79,000
pounds.

2.  All vehicles or combinations of vehicles
weighing 73,280 pounds or less shall continue to
operate under the existing statutory axle load
limits.

3.  All vehicles or combinations of vehicles
weighing more than 73,280 pounds but not
exceeding 79,000 pounds shall operate according
to the federal axle load limits as follows:

20,000 - single axle
34,000 - coupled axle

4.  The gross weight of any vehicle or
combination of vehicles may not exceed the
following limits, prorated for fractions of a
foot as follows:
