RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the

Jr., President of the Senate; the Honorable Benjamin L.
Cardin, Speaker of the House; and Mr. David W. Hornbeck,
State Superintendent of Schools, P.O. Box 8717
Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Baltimore,
Maryland 21240; and be it further

RESOLVED, That staff and secretarial assistance to the
commission be provided by the State Department of Education.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Recognition of Park and Recreation Volunteers

FOR the purpose of requesting the General Assembly to
recognize the efforts and achievements of park and
recreation volunteers throughout this State; and
requesting the Governor of this State to proclaim a
certain week as "Maryland Park and Recreation
Volunteers Appreciation Week" for a certain purpose.

WHEREAS, This State has been among the leaders in
fostering and encouraging a progressive concept relating to
park and recreation volunteers; and

WHEREAS, This volunteer concept has provided
continuous, outstanding park and recreation services and
leisure time opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Park and recreation volunteers have been
instrumental in developing a balanced and successful park
and recreation program for the people of this State; and

WHEREAS, Park and recreation volunteers have served a
vital function in stimulating interest in and support of
park and recreation programs, which improve the quality of
life in this State; and

WHEREAS, Park and recreation volunteers have been
instrumental in advising, promoting, and maintaining park
and recreation programs and have provided valuable input in
