(g) (1) [After June 1, 1969, all] ALL waterworks,
waste-water works and industrial waste-water works, whether
publicly or privately owned, and whether treating domestic
sewage, industrial wastes or combinations thereof, must be
under the supervision of [an] A superintendent whose
competency is certified to by the Board of Certification in
a classification corresponding to the classification of the
works to be supervised.
(2) AFTER JULY 1, 1980 1981 1982, ALL WATERWORKS
AND WASTEWATER WORKS, WHETHER PUBLICLY OR PRIVATELY OWNED,
AND WHETHER TREATING DOMESTIC SEWAGE, INDUSTRIAL WASTES, OR
COMBINATIONS THEREOF, MUST EMPLOY AN OPERATOR IN JOB
FUNCTIONS DETERMINED BY THE SECRETARY, WHOSE COMPETENCY IS
CERTIFIED TO BY THE BOARD OF CERTIFICATION IN A
CLASSIFICATION CORRESPONDING TO THE JOB FUNCTION.
(3) AFTER JULY 1, 1981 1982, ALL INDUSTRIAL
WASTEWATER WORKS MUST EMPLOY AN OPERATOR IN JOB FUNCTIONS
DETERMINED BY THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL
RESOURCES, WHOSE COMPETENCY IS CERTIFIED TO BY THE BOARD OF
CERTIFICATION IN A CLASSIFICATION CORRESPONDING TO THE JOB
FUNCTION.
(h) Nothing contained in this section shall prevent a
governmental agency, corporation or individual from
continuing to employ [in a supervisory capacity any person
in responsible charge of the operation of such] AN OPERATOR
OR INDUSTRIAL OPERATOR IN A WATERWORKS, WASTEWATER WORKS, OR
INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER works on [June 1, 1969, so long as the
works are not changed in classification] JULY 1, 1989 1981;
provided, however, that [such] THE person shall make
application for [such] certification as is required in
paragraph (f) above and shall be required to be permanently
certified no later than [June 1, 1971] JULY 1, 1988 1981
1982.
(i) The State Department of Health AND MENTAL HYGIENE
and the State Department of [Water] NATURAL Resources shall
conduct such tests of water and waste-water as are necessary
to determine the adequacy of performance of waterworks,
waste-water works, and industrial waste-water works.
(j) The State Department of Health AND MENTAL HYGIENE
and the State Department of [Water] NATURAL Resources shall
make such training reasonably available throughout the State
as is necessary for the purposes of this section AND INCLUDE
BUDGET SUPPORT FOR PROVIDING DIRECT JOB TRAINING. TO THE
FEDERAL AND STATE APPROVED TRAINING CENTER.
(k) After [June 1, 1969] JULY 1, 1980, it shall be
unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, both municipal
and private, to operate a waterworks, waste-water works or
industrial waste-water works unless the person in
responsible charge [has] AND SPECIFIED OPERATORS OR
INDUSTRIAL OPERATORS HAVE been duly certified under this
