distribution of water for human consumption. It shall not
include any facility used exclusively by a private
residence.

(2)  "Waste-water works" shall mean those
facilities used in the collection, transmission, storage,
pumping, treatment or discharge of any liquid or waterborne
waste, SLUDGE BY-PRODUCTS FROM ANY LIQUID OR WATERBORNE
WASTE, whether it be either of domestic origin or a
combination of domestic, commercial and/or industrial waste.
It shall not include any facility used exclusively by a
private residence nor any facility utilizing septic tanks
and subsoil absorption nor industrial waste-water works.

(3)  "Industrial waste-water works" shall mean
those facilities used in the collection, transmission,
storage, pumping, treatment or discharge of any liquid,
solid or other waste substance or any combination thereof
resulting from any process of industry, manufacturing, trade
or business, or from the development of any natural
resource.

(4)  "Responsible charge" shall mean responsible
for the day-by-day supervision of a waterworks, waste-water
works, or an industrial waste-water works, or any part
thereof, which may affect the performance of the works or
which may affect the quality of the water for human
consumption or the quality of the effluent produced by such
works.

(5)  "Superintendent" shall mean an individual
employed or appointed by any county, sanitary district,
municipality, corporation, company, institution, person, or
the State of Maryland who is designated by the employing or
appointing officials as the person in responsible charge of
the actual operation of a waterworks, waste-water works or
an industrial waste-water works. It is not intended to
include superintendents of public works, city engineers or
other municipal or industrial officials whose duties do not
include actual operation of such works, but it is intended
to include the first line of supervision.

(6) "OPERATOR" MEANS A PERSON WHO PERFORMS ANY
COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING TASKS PERTINENT TO CONTROLLING
OPERATION OF THE PLANT:

(I) OPERATES TREATMENT FACILITIES TO

CONTROL FLOW AND PROCESSING OF RAW AND FINISHED WATER;

(II) OBSERVES VARIATIONS IN OPERATING

CONDITIONS AND INTERPRETS METER AND GAUGE READINGS AND TEST
RESULTS TO DETERMINE PROCESSING REQUIREMENTS;

(III) OPERATES VALVES AND GATES EITHER
MANUALLY OR BY REMOTE CONTROL;
