   March 2.nd 1787 Then Came Sam,l Chew Esq,r one of the Subscribing  —
   Witnesses to the within last Will and Testament of Charles Gordon late of
   Kent County deced, and made oth oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty ~
   God that he did see the Testator herein Named Sign and Seal this Will
   and that he heard him Publish Pronounce and declare the Same to
   be his last Will and Testament, that at the Time of his so doing he was
   to the best of his Apprehension of Sound and disposing mind Memory
   and Understanding and that Levinus Clarkson, and Elisha I. Hall –
   the other Two Subscribing Witnesses was Present together with this —
   deponant, and Subscribed their Names as Witnesses to this Will in the
   Presence and at the Request of the Testator and in the Presence of each
   other. ——   ——— Before Jn,o Nicholson Regr——
                Kent County
   Sir/ I am by my Father appointed Executor to his Will; and as I do
      not mean to take out Letters must Request you to Consider —
      this as my Renunciation — I am y,rs &a:

   In the Name of God, Amen, the fifteenth day of January in the
   year of our Lord Christ Seventeen hundred and Eighty Seven, I James Sweney
   of Caroline County and State of Maryland formerly a residenter near George
   Town in Kent County and State aforesaid being weak in Body, but of Perfect
   and Sound Mind and Memory, do make and Ordain this my last Will
   and Testament, that is to say, Principally and first of all, I give and Recommend
   my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, and for my body I recommend it
   to the Earth, to be buried in a Christian like and decent Manner, at the
   Discretion of my Executor, And as touching such Worldly Estate where=
                                                   in this Life
 =with it has Pleased God to bless me with, I give Devise and dispose of the
   same in the following Manner and form, that is to say, first I leave my
   Negroes Congo and th his Wife Beck, also their Son I Jo free People, also I Give
   and bequeath unto my Negroes Congo and Beck all and Singular the
   five Acres of Land being part of a Tract of Land Called Chance and Whereon
                    and Beck
   the said Congo ^ now Lives, lying and being in Kent County and State —
