(Senate Bill 531)

AN ACT concerning

Regional Community Colleges - Board Composition

FOR the purpose of deleting the requirement that certain
members of boards of trustees of regional community
colleges also be members of certain county boards of
education; renumbering as appropriate; clarifying
language; providing that incumbent members may serve
out their terms; deleting the requirement that a
majority of members may not be members of Boards of
Education; and the requirement that the Board have an
odd number of members; and generally relating to
regional community colleges.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Education

Section 16-302(d)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1978 Volume and 1978 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Education

16-302.

(d) (1) After a request is made, the Governor, with
the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint seven
individuals to the new board.

[(2) At least one member of the county board

of education of each county in the region shall be

appointed.]

[(3)] (2) The board shall have an odd number of
members.

[(4)](3) A majority of the members of the board
may not be members of any board of education, and to achieve
this result, the Governor may increase the size of the
board.
