Senate Bill 534, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 1, 1979, accomplishes the
same purpose.
Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign House Bill
883.

AN ACT concerning
Anne Arundel County — Sanitary Landfills
FOR the purpose of providing that Anne Arundel County has
certain powers relating to sanitary landfills;
ratifying, confirming, and validating certain
ordinances relating to the establishment or operation
of sanitary landfills and actions taken pursuant to
such ordinances; providing that certain permits for
landfills may not be issued until certain requirements
have been complied with; and matters generally related
to sanitary landfills in Anne Arundel County.

Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 896.
This bill would allow Anne Arundel County to adopt
ordinances more restrictive than the requirements of State
law and the rules and regulations of the Secretary of Health
and Mental Hygiene pertaining to sanitary landfills and to
regulate the establishment and operation of sanitary
landfills in the county. It would also prohibit the
