general election in 1980. The Board of County Commissioners
and the Board of Supervisors of Elections of Garrett County
shall do those things necessary and proper to provide for
and hold the referendum here required. There shall be
printed on the ballots or ballot labels to be used at this
election the title of this Act and underneath the title, on
separate lines, a square or box to the right of and opposite
the words: "For Elected School Board" and a corresponding
square or box to the right of and opposite the words
"Against Elected School Board" so that each voter of the
county may designate his or her decision for or against the
provisions of this Act. If a majority of the votes cast in
the election are "For Elected School Board" the provisions
of this Act shall become effective on (the 30th day
following the official canvass of votes for the referendum),
but if a majority of the votes cast in the election are
"Against Elected School Board" the provisions of this Act
shall be of no effect and null and void.

(House Bill 1489)

AN ACT concerning

Frederick County — Volunteer Fire Companies

FOR the purpose of designating those volunteer fire
departments which are authorized to render fire and
rescue services in Frederick County and authorizing the
Board of County Commissioners with the advice of the
Frederick County Firemen's Association to establish
rules, regulations, and specifications for the
equipment, service areas, and operations of volunteer
fire departments in Frederick County; providing
penalties for violation of the rules, regulations, and
specifications and authorizing appropriations by the
County Commissioners for qualified Frederick County
Volunteer fire companies; providing for the suspension
of operations of fire companies not in conformance with
standards; authorizing the Board of County
Commissioners, in its discretion, to contribute money
to compensate certain out of county fire companies; and
repealing a provision which concerns specifically
contributions to a certain volunteer fire company.
