ACADEMIC STANDING AT THE UNIVERSITY WHO:

(I)   IS AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD; AND

(II)    HAS THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO BE
STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT.

(D)   TERM AND VACANCIES.

(1)   EXCEPT FOR THE STUDENT MEMBER, EACH MEMBER
SERVES FOR A TERM OF 6 YEARS AND UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS
APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES. THE TERMS ARE STAGGERED AS
REQUIRED BY THE TERMS OF THE MEMBERS SERVING ON JULY 1,
1978.

(2)   THE STUDENT MEMBER SERVES FOR A TERM OF 1
YEAR AND UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(3) A MEMBER APPOINTED TO FILL A VACANCY IN AN
UNEXPIRED TERM SERVES ONLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THAT TERM
AND UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(E)   COMPENSATION.

EACH MEMBER OF THE BOARD:

(1)       SERVES WITHOUT COMPENSATION; AND

(2)      IS ENTITLED TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARD STATE TRAVEL REGULATIONS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 77A, §74(a)
and (b).

In subsection (c)(1) of this section, a
requirement that the nonstudent members be
"residents of this State" is substituted for the
present "citizens of this State". This conforms
with language used elsewhere in this article.
See, e.g., §14-102 of this article.

In subsection (d)(2) of this section, present
language specifying that the student member's
term is 1 year "unless the term terminates sooner
..." is deleted as unnecessary.

As to subsection (d) of this section, it should
be noted that Section 14 of this Act provides
that "nothing in this act affects the term of
office of an appointed member of any ... Board
...." Therefore, the terms of those members of
the Board of Regents appointed to less than 6
year terms are not affected. Of the terms of the
nonstudent members, one third expire in each odd
numbered year.
