(Senate Joint Resolution 73)

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Reimbursable Cost for Emergency Assistance Services

FOR the purpose of requesting the Acting Governor to appoint

a study commission with a certain membership

composition, to study Legislative Policy Committee to

assign to the appropriate legislative committee the

study of the feasibility of cost reimbursement from
insurance policies to for fire and rescue services in
certain instances.

WHEREAS, The fire and rescue services in Maryland are
experiencing severely escalating costs of medical supplies,
materials, and equipment in providing emergency assistance;
and

WHEREAS, The public request for emergency assistance by
the fire and rescue services has risen steadily over the
past years with the growth of the State; and

WHEREAS, The technological advances and sophistication
of rendering emergency assistance by the fire and rescue
services has increased costs dramatically; now therefore,
be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Acting Governor be requested to appoint a study committee
which will study Legislative Policy Committee will assign to

the appropriate legislative committee the study of the

feasibility of a program that would reimburse costs incurred
by fire and rescue services from insurance policies; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That this study committee shall have 11 9
members comprised of two from the Senate State Senators or
their designees who shall be recommended by the President of
the Senate, two members from the House of Delegates or their
designees who shall be recommended by the Speaker of the
House of Delegates, two representatives of the insurance
industry, two from the Maryland Institute for Emergency
Medical Services, two from the Maryland State Firemen's
Association, and one from the Maryland Fire and Rescue
Institute and five persons who shall be recommended by the
President of the Maryland State Firemen's Association. The
