A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
Movie Theatre — Youth Sates
FOR the purpose of urging Maryland movie theatre owners to
institute extend certain lower rates for to young
people who are a certain age and younger; and to limit
rate increases en certain tickets.
WHEREAS, The Maryland movie theatres offer a valuable
and varied program of entertainment to the citizens of
Maryland and it is recognized that a large number of
potential theatre goers exist among the young people of
Maryland; and
WHEREAS, These young people are presently treated as
adults when it comes to paying full price for admission but
are treated as minors when it comes to a censor's
determination of the picture content; and
WHEREAS, In a period of ever increasing prices it is
more and more difficult for these young, unemployed or
part-time employed people to regularly afford the present
price of the many good movies now available at local
theatres; and
WHEREAS, It is possible that one solution to
alleviating the present juvenile crime problem and to keep
many of our young people occupied is to permit them to spend
an increased amount of time at our local theatres; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland movie theatre owners are urged to institute extend
lower rates not to exceed 40 percent of the adult rate for
to young people 18 17 and under, and to limit rate increases
to not more than 5 percent per year for adult and youth
tickets; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to J&F
Theatres, Inc., 2 Charles Center, Baltimore, Maryland;
Durkee Theatres, Inc., c/o Circle Theatre, State Circle,
Annapolis, Maryland 21401; and the National Association of
Theatre Owners of Maryland, 516 N. Charles Street, Room 403,
Baltimore, Maryland 21201.
