any such real estate broker or real estate salesman or the
unlicensed employee of any such real estate broker, or by
reason of a violation of this subtitle by such broker,
salesman, or employee may recover compensation in the amount
of his actual loss as proven before the Commission.

224.

(a)    The Commission may upon its own motion and shall
upon the verified complaint in writing of any person,
provided such complaint, or such complaint together with
evidence, documentary or otherwise, presented in connection
therewith, shall make out a prima facie case, cause to be
investigated the actions of any real estate broker or real
estate salesman, or any person who shall assume to act in
either such capacity within this State, and shall have the
power to suspend or revoke any license issued under the
provisions of this subtitle, or, in lieu of or in addition
to any suspension or revocation, impose a penalty of up to
two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) per violation upon any
licensee at any time where the licensee has by false or
fraudulent representation obtained a license, or where the
licensee in performing or attempting to perform any of the
acts mentioned herein, is deemed to be guilty of:

(m) Forgery, [embezzlement, obtaining money under
false pretenses, larceny] THEFT, extortion, conspiracy to
defraud, or other like offense or offenses, and who has been
convicted thereof in a court of competent jurisdiction of
this or any other State, or

(b)    Except as provided in § 4-302, the District Court
also has exclusive original jurisdiction in a criminal case
in which a person at least 18 years old or a corporation is
charged with:

(2) Violation of [any of the following]
sections 342 THROUGH 344 of Article 27 of the Code, whether
a felony or a misdemeanor, if the [amount of money or the
value of the thing taken, stolen, received, converted, or
shoplifted does not exceed $500:

Section 129    (Embezzlement)

Section    340     (Larceny)

Section    353    (Larceny After Trust)

Section    466    (Receiving Stolen Goods)

Section 551A (Shoplifting);] VALUE OF THE
PROPERTY STOLEN DOES NOT EXCEED $500;
