Secretary of the Department of Personnel shall determine if
the injury for which the leave was taken by the employee is
an injury which occurred in the discharge of the performance
of the employee as a State policeman.]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

AN ACT concerning
Assessors — County Classification Changes
FOR the purpose of granting the State Department of
Assessments and Taxation with the approval of the
Secretary of Personnel the authority to initiate
changes to the classification and salary of Assessors
who have elected to remain subject to the local system
in order to establish and maintain organizational
uniformity with the State classification system for
Assessors.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 81 — Revenue and Taxes
246C.
(c) All assessors who elect under subsection (b)
above to remain in a local salary system and subject to a
local pension or retirement system, and health benefit
system shall be eligible to receive any salary increases or
change in benefits applicable after July 1, 1974 to all
employees in the local system. Any salary increases or
change in benefits applicable to less than all the employees
in the local system which are applicable to assessors shall
be effective for them only upon approval of the increases or
change in benefits by the Secretary of Personnel. FOR THE
