BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 59 - Mental Hygiene

Section 32A(b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1972 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 59 - Mental Hygiene

32A.

(b) Members of the board shall be citizens of the
State who are residents of the county or City of Baltimore,
as the case may be, in the region served by each [such]
facility[, who are representative of the community and who
are known for their interest in civic and public affairs and
for their concern about the care of the mentally ill and
mentally retarded]. THE BOARD AS A WHOLE SHALL ADEQUATELY
REFLECT THE COMPOSITION OF THE COMMUNITY SERVED BY THE
FACILITY. AT LEAST TWO MEMBERS OF EACH BOARD SHALL BE
PARENTS OR RELATIVES OF PATIENTS, OR FORMER PATIENTS, OF
THAT FACILITY OR OF A SIMILAR STATE FACILITY. THE REMAINING
MEMBERS SHALL BE PERSONS WHO ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR INTEREST IN
CIVIC AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND WHO HAVE EXPRESSED AN ACTIVE AN
INTEREST IN AND CONCERN ABOUT THE CARE OF THE MENTALLY ILL
OR MENTAL HEALTH ENDEAVORS GENERALLY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THIS ACT
SHALL TAKE EFFECT JULY 1, 1978.
