REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 66 1/2,
§1-187.
11-160. STAND.
"STAND" MEANS TO HALT A VEHICLE, WHETHER OR NOT IT
IS OCCUPIED, OTHER THAN TEMPORARILY:
(1) WHEN NECESSARY TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH OTHER
TRAFFIC OR IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE DIRECTIONS OF A POLICE
OFFICER OR A TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE; OR
(2) FOR THE PURPOSE OF AND WHILE ACTUALLY ENGAGED
IN RECEIVING OR DISCHARGING PASSENGERS.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
from Art. 66 1/2, §1-189.
The term "standing", which is defined in
present Art. 66 1/2, §1-189 as synonymous with
"stand", is deleted as unnecessary. The
meaning of "standing" and other verbal
variations used in the Maryland Vehicle Law
would necessarily derive from the definition
of the verb "stand".
Item (1) of this section is new language; see
revisor's note to §11-144 of this subtitle for
an explanation of its addition.
The only other changes are in style.
11-161. STATE.
"STATE" INCLUDES A PROVINCE OF THE DOMINION OF
CANADA.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 66 1/2,
§1-190.
The present reference to "a state, territory,
or possession of the United States, the
District of Columbia, {and} ... Puerto Rico"
is deleted as unnecessary. All of these are
included already in the broad meaning of "any
state", as defined in §1-101 of this article;
