(House Joint Resolution 93)
A House Joint Resolution concerning
State House - Display of Maryland Flag
FOR the purpose of requesting the State House Trust to
investigate the feasibility of affixing a gold cross
bottony to the top of the State House flagstaff; and
further requesting that this project be undertaken
if it is concluded that it is practical.
WHEREAS, The State House is the seat of the
Legislative and Executive branches of Maryland
government; and
WHEREAS, A provision of State law requires the
Maryland flag to be displayed from the State House
(Article 41 § 73 of the Annotated Code of Maryland); and
WHEREAS, The law of Maryland also provides, "If any
ornament is affixed to the top of a flagstaff carrying
the flag of Maryland, it shall be a gold cross bottony
(Article 41 § 74 of the Annotated Code of Maryland); and
WHEREAS, A weathervane ornament is affixed to the
flagstaff from which the Maryland flag is displayed at
the State House, but the gold cross bottony is not
affixed to the top of the flagstaff; and
WHEREAS, It is desireable to comply with the
provisions of State law regarding the proper display of
the Maryland flag; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND,
That the State House Trust is requested to investigate
