feasible and appropriate make recommendations for the
furtherance of traffic safety; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the committee study the desirability
and practicability of compulsory licensing of bicyclists,
registration and inspection of bicycles using public
thoroughfares, bicycle paths or routes, or other public
facilities, and make recommendations consistent with
their findings; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the committee review the matter of
education of both bicyclists and motor vehicle operators
to an understanding of the special problems posed by
shared usage of streets and highways by bicycles and
motor vehicles, and make recommendations concerning
continuing means to such safety education; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation seek
the assistance of appropriate agencies for this study;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation
present to the General Assembly a progress report by
December 1, 1977 and a report of findings and
recommendations to the General Assembly not later than
May 1, 1978; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Harry Hughes, Secretary of the State
Department of Transportation, BWI Airport, Baltimore,
Maryland 21240.
