of employment security.] (6)    THE SHERIFF MAY APPOINT AS SPECIAL
DEPUTY SHERIFFS ANY MEMBERS OF THE POLICE FORCES OF THE
TOWNS OF CECILTON, CHARLESTOWN, CHESAPEAKE CITY, ELKTON,
NORTH EAST, PERRYVILLE, PORT DEPOSIT, OR RISING SUN OR
ANY OTHER CORPORATE MUNICIPALITY WITHIN CECIL COUNTY.
THESE SPECIAL DUTY SHERIFFS SHALL HAVE ALL OF THE POWERS
AND AUTHORITY OF THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS BOTH WITHIN AND
WITHOUT THE TOWN IN WHICH THEY ARE MEMBERS OF THE POLICE
FORCE. (7)    THE SHERIFF MAY APPOINT AS SPECIAL
DEPUTY SHERIFFS NOT MORE THAN 25 ADULT VOLUNTEERS WHO
SHALL SERVE WITHOUT PAY. UPON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
OF TRAINING WHICH THE SHERIFF CONSIDERS APPROPRIATE,
THESE SPECIAL DEPUTY SHERIFFS SHALL HAVE ALL OF THE
POWERS AND AUTHORITY OF THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS AND FUNCTIONS
AS THE SHERIFF'S GENERAL REPRESENTATIVES IN THE SAME
MANNER AS HIS REGULAR DEPUTIES, ALL AT THE PLEASURE OF
THE SHERIFF. IF LIABILITY, FALSE ARREST, AND WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION INSURANCE COVERAGE IS PROVIDED FOR THE REGULAR DEPUTY SHERIFFS, THE SAME COVERAGE SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR THE SPECIAL DEPUTIES PROVIDED FOR IN THIS
PARAGRAPH. (8)    THE SPECIAL DEPUTIES DESCRIBED IN
PARAGRAPHS 6 AND 7 SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED EMPLOYEES OF
CECIL COUNTY AS SPECIAL DEPUTIES. ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES
COVERED BY THIS SECTION ARE DECLARED TO BE EMPLOYEES OF
CECIL COUNTY FOR PURPOSES OF EMPLOYMENT SECURITY.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new Section 355 be and it is hereby added to Article 101 —
Workmen's Compensation, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) to read as follows: Article 101 — Workmen's Compensation 35B. (A) VOLUNTEER DEPUTY SHERIFFS OF CECIL COUNTY, WHILE ACTUALLY ON DUTY, SHALL BE DEEMED WORKMEN FOR WAGES AND ENGAGED IN EXTRA HAZARDOUS EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE MEANING OF THIS ARTICLE. A DEPUTY SHERIFF OF CECIL COUNTY SHALL BE DEEMED TO BE ON DUTY WHENEVER HE PERFORMS
WORK OR DUTY ASSIGNED HIM BY THE SHERIFF OF CECIL COUNTY. (B) COMPENSATION SHALL BE BASED UPON THE SALARY OR WAGES RECEIVED BY THE DEPUTY SHERIFF OF CECIL COUNTY IN HIS PRIVATE EMPLOYMENT; OR IF THE VOLUNTEER IS NOT EMPLOYED, ON THE SALARY OR WAGE LAST RECEIVED BY HIM; OR IF HE HAS NEVER BEEN EMPLOYED, COMPENSATION SHALL BE THE
MINIMUM PROVIDED BY THIS ARTICLE.
