Cecil County - Sheriff and Deputies
FOR the purpose of altering the salary and allowance for
lodging for the Sheriff of Cecil County; altering
the number of full-time deputies and the salary for
certain deputies; altering the number of automobiles
furnished to the Sheriff's office, length of time
for replacement, and mileage allowance; providing
for special deputy sheriffs; and certain insurance
coverage for certain special deputies; generally
relating to the Sheriff's office; and clarifying
language.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309(i) of Article - Courts and
Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1974 Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and it is hereby
repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-309.
(i) (1) The Sheriff of Cecil County shall
receive [a] AN ANNUAL salary of [$12,500] $15,000 and
free lodging for himself and his family at the jail or
[$1,500], IN LIEU OF FREE LODGING, $2,500 per year. The
Sheriff shall appoint [18] 20 full—time deputy sheriffs,
one as chief deputy [and], [one] TWO as [investigator]
INVESTIGATORS, AND ONE AS CHIEF JAILER. [After the
investigator has performed his duties, he shall assume
the duties of a deputy. ] The starting salary of the
chief deputy [and], [investigator] THE INVESTIGATORS, AND
THE CHIEF JAILER is [$8,300] $8,800 and their maximum
salary is [$10,800] $11,300. The STARTING SALARY FOR THE
remaining 16 [deputies' starting salary] DEPUTY SHERIFFS
is $8,000 and their maximum salary is $10,500. Each
deputy shall receive annual increments of $400 after the
first year of service, $500 after the second, third, and
fourth years, and $600 after the fifth year. Each deputy
may not receive the first year increment of $400 prior to
