MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                               2489 (1971 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 315 of Article 43 - Health, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and
1976 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed: Article 43 — Health 315. [(a) Upon payment of the license fee, any person
who has successfully completed not less than 1,200 hours
of instruction at a licensed barber school, and who has
passed the journeyman's examination, shall be issued a
journeyman barber's license by the Board. The journeyman
barber's initial license shall be valid for a period of
18 months at which time the journeyman barber shall take
the examination for the master barber's certificate. If
the journeyman barber fails to successfully complete the
examination, the journeyman barber's license may be
renewed annually. (b) k journeyman barber may do barbering work in a
regularly operated barbershop under the supervision of a
master barber.] SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new Section 315 be and it is hereby   added to Article 43 - Health, or the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) to read as
follows: Article 43 - Health 315. (A)           UPON PAYMENT OF THE LICENSE FEE, ANY PERSON
WHO HAS PASSED THE JOURNEYMAN'S EXAMINATION AND WHO HAS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED NOT LESS THAN 1,200 HOURS OF
INSTRUCTION AT A LICENSED BARBER SCHOOL, SHALL BE ISSUED
A JOURNEYMAN BARBER'S LICENSE BY THE BOARD. HOWEVER, ANY
APPLICANT WHO HAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED TRAINING IN AND IS
CURRENTLY LICENSED IN THIS STATE AS A BEAUTY OPERATOR
SHALL BE GIVEN CREDIT FOR 50 PERCENT OF THE REQUIRED
TRAINING HOURS. THE BOARD SHALL DETERMINE THE MANNER IN
WHICH THE CREDITS ARE APPLIED. (B)           THE JOURNEYMAN BARBER'S INITIAL LICENSE SHALL
BE VALID FOR A PERIOD OF 18 MONTHS AT WHICH TIME THE
JOURNEYMAN BARBER SHALL TAKE THE EXAMINATION FOR THE
MASTER BARBER'S CERTIFICATE.         IF THE JOURNEYMAN BARBER
FAILS TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE EXAMINATION, THE
JOURNEYMAN BARBER'S LICENSE MAY BE RENEWED ANNUALLY. (C)           A JOURNEYMAN BARBER MAY DO BARBERING WORK IN A
REGULARLY OPERATED BARBERSHOP UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A
