SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new
Section 21-101(g-1) be and it is hereby added to Article
- Transportation, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (As
enacted by Chapter 14, Acts of the General Assembly of
1977) to read as follows:
Article - Transportation
21-101.
(G-1) (1) "MARKED CROSSWALK" MEANS ANY PART OF A
ROADWAY THAT IS DISTINCTLY INDICATED FOR PEDESTRIAN
CROSSING BY LINES AND MARKINGS AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH
(2) OF THIS SUBSECTION.
(2) THE MARKINGS INDICATING A MARKED
CROSSWALK SHALL CONSIST OF TWO PARALLEL SOLID WHITE LINES
MARKING BOTH EDGES OF THE CROSSWALK. THESE LINES SHALL
BE AT LEAST SIX INCHES WIDE AND AT LEAST SIX FEET APART.
HOWEVER, IN AN AREA WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS MORE THAN 35
MILES AN HOUR, OR WHERE A CROSSWALK IS LOCATED AT OTHER
THAN AN INTERSECTION, OR WHERE THE EXISTENCE OF A
CROSSWALK IS UNEXPECTED, OR WHERE A CROSSWALK IS LOCATED
IN A SCHOOL ZONE, THESE LINES SHALL BE AT LEAST 24 INCHES
WIDE, AND THE SPACE BETWEEN THEM SHALL BE HATCHED WITH
DIAGONAL WHITE LINES THAT ARE 12 TO 24 INCHES WIDE AND 12
TO 24 INCHES APART.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Sections
21-502 (a) (2) and 27-101(c) of Article - Transportation,
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (As enacted by Chapter
14, Acts or the General Assembly of 1977) be and they are
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article - Transportation
21-502.
(a) (2) It a traffic control signal is not in
operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the
right-or—way and, if necessary, slew down or stop to
yield the right—of—way to a pedestrian who is crossing
the roadway in a MARKED crosswalk OR IN AN UNMARKED
CROSSWALK AT AN INTERSECTION, if the pedestrian is:
(I) On the of the roadway on which the
vehicle is traveling; or

(II) Approaching so closely from the
other half of the roadway as to be in danger.
