(A) IN GENERAL.
EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION, ON ANY
HIGHWAY OUTSIDE OF A BUSINESS DISTRICT OR A RESIDENTIAL
DISTRICT, A PERSON MAY NOT:
(1) STOP, PARK, OR LEAVE STANDING ON THE
ROADWAY ANY VEHICLE, WHETHER ATTENDED OR UNATTENDED, IF
IT IS PRACTICABLE TO STOP, PARK, OR LEAVE THE VEHICLE
STANDING OFF THE ROADWAY;
(2) LEAVE ANY VEHICLE STANDING, WITHOUT
PROVIDING AN UNOBSTRUCTED WIDTH OF THE ROADWAY OPPOSITE
THE STANDING VEHICLE FOR THE FREE PASSAGE OF OTHER
VEHICLES; OR
(3) STOP ANY VEHICLE, UNLESS IT CAN BE SEEN
CLEARLY FROM 200 FEET AWAY IN EACH DIRECTION ON THE
ROADWAY.
(B) EXCEPTION FOR DISABLES VEHICLES.
THIS SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO THE DRIVER OF A
VEHICLE THAT HAS BECOME UNINTENTIONALLY SO DISABLED WHILE
ON THE ROADWAY THAT HE CANNOT AVOID STOPPING AND
TEMPORARILY LEAVING IT THERE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §11-1001.
In subsection (a)(1) and (2) of this section,
the word "roadway" is substituted for the
present "highway" since these two provisions
relate more specifically to the traveled part
of the "highway"; i.e. its "roadway".
The only other changes are in style.
21-1002. RESERVED.
REVISOR'S NOTE: Present Art. 66 1/2, §11-1002, which
prohibits the abandonment of motor vehicles,
and §11-1002.1, which authorizes a police
department to take into custody any motor
vehicle found abandoned, and §11-1002.2, which
relates to the disposition of abandoned
vehicles, are all transferred to Title 25,
Subtitle 2 of this article.
Although present §11-1002.1 permits the police
to take into custody "abandoned" vehicles,
present Art. 66 1/2 does not provide
adequately for the treatment of vehicles
stopped, parked, or standing in violation of
§21-1001 of this subtitle. The General
Assembly may wish to consider adoption of all
or part of the Uniform Vehicle Code approach
