faculty positions at the Maryland School for the Deaf;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Governor.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

[[Commission on]] Mental Health and the Mental
Illnesses of the Elderly

FOR the purpose of requesting the [[Governor to appoint a
Commission on Mental Health and the Mental Illnesses
of the Elderly]] Office on Aging to study mental
health and the mental illnesses of the elderly.

The State has a responsibility to provide proper
care for its citizens suffering from mental illnesses and
senior citizens suffering from mental diseases, which
affect the elderly.

Although the State has present programs in both
these areas a study of these programs should be made to
determine if there is need for improvement. A group of
persons interested and knowledgeable in these health
areas should review the State programs and determine if
additional efforts should be made to aid the mentally
ill; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the [[Governor is requested to]] Office on Aging shall
appoint a Commission to study the future needs of mental
health facilities including manpower, research and
training; and be it further

RESOLVED, That [[this Commission]] the Office on
Aging should study methods of improving mental health
care for the aged and providing appropriate care for
elderly persons in mental institutions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the [[Commission]] Office on Aging
should develop recommendations for effectuating any
improvements it feels are necessary in the health area
and should report these recommendations to the 1977
Session of the General Assembly.
