JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 74

FOR the purpose of urging the Conowingo Power Company to
exercise understanding, prudence and good judgment
in dealing with the arrearages of customers who
recently have been faced with a large and unexpected
increase in their utility rates.

As a result of a recent purchase power adjustment,
authorized by the Federal Power Commission, by which the
supplier from whom the Conowingo Power Company purchases
its electricity was permitted a rate increase, the
Conowingo Power Company has in turn raised its rates to
its customers.

Many of these customers, who have always been
concientious and prompt in the payment of their utility
bills, are now experiencing the additional burden of an
unexpected rate increase in an already tight economy.
These same customers, unable to meet promptly their
utility payments, are faced with the double hardship of
having their power service interrupted in the middle of
winter. No one can deny that present economic conditions
are difficult at best and that unexpected rate increases
in such fundamental necessities as utilities can cause
insurmountable economic difficulties; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body urges the Conowingo Power Company to exercise
understanding, prude the and good judgment in dealing with
the arrearages of customers who recently have been faced
with exorbitant unexpected increases in their utility
rates; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Conowingo Power Company, 213 North Street, Elkton,
Maryland 21921; and to the Philadelphia Electric Company,
2301 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19101.
