In 1964, the Society adopted the Institute of
Logopedics in Wichita, Kansas, as an International
Service Project.

In 1965, the 25 year history "Melodies for Millions"
by Will Cook and Charles Wilcox, was published. U. S.
Internal Revenue Service classified the Society and its
U. S. Districts and Chapters as "educational" and
declared them exempt from Federal income tax.

In 19 70, the Society program for high school youth,
"Young Men In Harmony" was started after approval by the
Music Educator National Conference. The first audition's
for admission's sessions was held as a Society—sponsored
program following the adoption at the Seattle mid—winter
meeting. This program originated by the Peninsula
California Chapter and was recommended to the Society by
the Far Western District.

Today there are 987 members in the Maryland area
alone; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Governor, during this Bicentennial Year be requested
to proclaim the month of April as Barber Shop [[Quartet]]
Harmony Month; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Maryland Chapter of the Society
for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop
[[Quartet]] [[Harmony]] Quartet Singing in America be
congratulated for preserving harmony in singing
throughout the State and that the Governor proclaim the
month of April as Barber Shop [[Quartet]] Harmony Month;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Governor and the following Chapters: Anne Arundel,
