[(3)] (B) "Physical therapist[, ]" [as defined in
this subtitle.] means a person who practices physical
therapy.

[(b)] (C) "Physical therapist assistant[,]" [as
defined in this subtitle,] means a person who works under
the direction of [only one] A physical therapist by
performing those physical therapy procedures [(as] listed
in [§ 604, 3) which] § 604(B)(1) (III) OF THIS SUBTITLE
THAT are assigned to him by a physical therapist and
[which] are commensurate with his education and training
[(as] AS defined in [§ 610, (a), (3),] § 610(A) (2) OF
THIS SUBTITLE, but not those activities [as] defined in
[§ 604, 1 and 2). Direction as defined in this subtitle
shall mean] § 604(B)(1)(I) AND (II) OF THIS SUBTITLE.

(D) "DIRECTION" MEANS that the physical therapist
shall maintain continuing verbal and written contact with
the physical therapist assistant including periodic
on-site supervision and instruction adequate to ensure
the safety and welfare of the patient.

606.

(A)    The State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners
as it existed prior to June 1, 1968 is [hereby]
continued, except that [on and after this date, ] the
Board shall consist of five members. The Board shall be
part of the Department of Health and Rental Hygiene.
Three members of the Board shall be physical therapists
who are licensed to practice physical therapy under this
subtitle and who are actively engaged in physical therapy
in the State. Two members of the Board shall be licensed
to practice medicine under the provisions of this article
until the termination of their respective terms on or
before June 1, 1977 and July 1, 1978; upon the
termination, a physical therapist who is licensed to
practice physical therapy under this subtitle and who is
actively engaged in physical therapy in the State shall
be appointed. Members of the Board shall be appointed by
the Governor, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of
Health and Mental Hygiene, for terms of five years each
and until their successors are appointed. All
appointments shall be made as terms on the Board
respectively expire (other than by abolition of
positions) and so as to preserve the composition of the
Board[; the], EACH appointment shall be made from lists
of qualified persons submitted to the Governor and the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene by the American
Physical Therapy Association of Maryland and shall
contain not less than three names for each appointment to
be made. Vacancies shall be filled by the Governor, upon
the recommendation of the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene, for the unexpired term in the manner provided
[herein] IN THIS SUBSECTION.

(B)   A quorum of the Board for the transaction of
business shall be three members.
