Article 43 - Health

Section 604 through 606, inclusive, 610 and 611

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 604 through 606, inclusive, 610
and 611 of Article 43 - Health, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be
and they are hereby repealed and reenacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

604.

(A)    Physical therapy is a health specialty
concerned with the PREVENTION OF DISABILITY AND THE
physical rehabilitation of persons having disability
resulting from, or secondary to, injury, or disease.

[The practice of physical therapy defined]

(B)    (1) The "practice of physical therapy" means
the practice, for compensation directly or indirectly
paid, of the health specialty and includes:

[1.] (I) Performing and interpreting
tests and measurements of neuromuscular and
musculoskeletal functions as an aid to treatment;

[2.] (II) Planning initial and
subsequent treatment programs, on the basis of test
findings, and within the orders of the referring
practitioner; and

[3.] (III) Administering treatment
through the use of therapeutic exercise, massage,
mechanical devices, and therapeutic agents which employ
the physical, chemical, and other properties of air,
water, electricity, sound, and radiant energy[; but].

(2) "PRACTICE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY" does not
include the use of Roentgen rays or radium, nor the use
of electricity for cauterization or surgery.
