register the purchased vehicle and receive a certificate
of title. The sales receipt at [such a] THE sale shall
be sufficient title only for purposes of transferring the
vehicle to a scrap processor for demolition, wrecking, or
dismantling, and in such case, no further titling of the
vehicle is necessary. From the proceeds of the sale of
an abandoned motor vehicle the police department shall
reimburse itself for the expenses of the auction, the
costs of towing, preserving, and storing the vehicle
[which] THAT resulted from placing the abandoned motor
vehicle in custody, and all notice and publication costs
incurred pursuant to subsection (a) and (b)[,] of this
section. Any remainder from the proceeds of a sale shall
be held for the owner of the vehicle or entitled
lienholder for [ninety] 90 days[, ] and then shall [be
deposited with the State Treasurer in the Abandoned
Vehicles Fund, as provided for in § 3-830.] REVERT TO THE
TREASURY OF THE COUNTY, OR BALTIMORE CITY, IN WHICH THE
SALE IS MADE.
(2) Whenever the proceeds of a sale of such
other abandoned vehicles are not sufficient to meet the
expenses incurred, the Administration shall reimburse the
several counties of the State and Baltimore City the sum
of [ten dollars ($10.00)] $10 from the fund established
in § 3—830 of this article for each vehicle taken into
custody by a county, or Baltimore City, when [such] THE
vehicle is sold for the purpose of total destruction and
when acceptable evidence is presented to the
Administration that [such] THE vehicle has been totally
destroyed.
[The reimbursement of expenses from the Abandoned
Vehicles Fund to the several counties and Baltimore City
shall only apply to abandoned vehicles which are removed
from public or private property of this State on and
after July 1, 1972. ]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.
