276 At the same time Elizabeth Williams wife of the said James Williams appeared before me and was Privately examined by me out of the hearing of her said Husband and declared she made her Acknowledgment to the within Deed and released her right of Dower therein Willingly and freely and without being induced thereto by fear or threats or ill usage by her said 21¾ sides Husband or fear of his displeasure according to the Act of Assembly in such Case made and Provided A C Hanson Recorded the 8.th December 1784 Ex.d dl.d This Indenture made this Eighth ^day of^ December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty four Between Thomas Stains of the City of Philadelphia and Elizabeth his Wife of the same City formerly Elizabeth Gale of the City of Annapolis of the one Part and John Rogers of the City of Annapolis of the other Part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Stains and Elizabeth his Wife for and in Consideration of the sum of fifteen hundred Pounds Current Money of Maryland to them in hand Paid by the said John Rogers at and before the ensealing ^and^ delivery hereof the Receipt whereof the said Thomas Stains and Elizabeth his Wife do hereby acknowledge and therefrom acquit and Discharge the said John Rogers his Heirs Executors and Administrators have granted Bargained sold aliened released enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien release e^n^feoff and Confirm unto the said John Rogers his Heirs and Assigns forever all that lot or Parcel of Ground in the City of Annapolis and by the Plat of the said City Numbered known and distinguished by the letter A which said Lot of Ground and improvements the said Thomas Stains and Elizabeth his Wife recovered from Bennett Chew at the General Court for Maryland held at Annapolis in the Month of October last together with all the Houses out Houses Edifices Buildings Gardens and Improvements on the said Lott of Ground being and Standing and the reversion and reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents and Profits of the same and every Part thereof and all the right title Estate and Interest of them the said Thomas Stains and Elizabeth his Wife in or to the premises aforesaid hereby Bargained and sold and Intended so to be and every Part and Parcel thereof with the appurtenances To have and to Hold the said Lot of Ground and ever^y^ part and Parcel thereof with the Premisses and Appurtenances thereunto belonging hereby bargained and sold unto the said John Rogers his Heirs and Assigns forever to the only Proper Use of the said John Rogers his Heirs and Assigns for ever and to no other Use or Purpose Whatsoever And the said Thomas Stains and Elizabeth his Wife for themselves their Heirs Executors and Administrators Do hereby covenant promise and agree |
