206 Of dower to the Land mentioned in the said deed, and being by me privately examined out of the hearing of her said husband acknowledged and declared that she made her acknowledged freely and willingly & without being induced thereto by fear or threats of a ill usage by her husband or fear of his Displeasure 8 sides NB this deed received after receiving an Indenture between Horatio A C Hanson Belt and Catherine Belt of the one part and Benjamin Ogle of the Recorded 30.th April 1784 other part Test Tho.s B Hodgkin Cl Ex.d City of Annapolis May 3.d 1784 I William Nourse appointed Clerk to the Commissioners for settling the Accounts of the State of Maryland With the United States do solemnly swear that I will truly and faithfully execute the duties of my Office according to my best skill and Understanding so help me God Recorded 3.d May 1784 Allen Quynn Ex.d Dl.d p.d Maryland sc.t Whereas the United States in Congress assembled by their Act of The fourteenth day of January last in pursuance of the Treaty of peace between the United States of America and his Britannic Majesty have recommended to the Legislature of the respective States to provide for the testitution of all all Estates rights And properties which have been Confiscated belonging to real British subjects as by Referrence to the Articles of said treaty may more fully appear Now Know Ye that I John Cross of Leverington in the County of Cambridge in Great Britain at present residing in the City of Annapolis in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes & Considerations me hereunto moving have made ordained authorised nominated and appointed and by these presents Do make Ordain authorize nominate and appoint Gabriel Duvall of Annapolis Attorney at Law my true and lawfull Attorney for me and in my name and for my own proper use and Benefit to make Application to the Legislature of the State of Maryland for Restitution of all the Estates Rights titles and interest which Henry Massey formerly a Resident of Maryland had of in and to sundry Tract of Land in the State of Maryland which now is and also of in and to all the personal Estate of the said Henry Massey which said Estate is now vested in me as by Reference to certain Instruments of Writing and other authenticated Documents will more fully and at Large appear and the said Gabriel Duvall is also hereby fully authorised and impowered for me and in my name and for my own proper use and Benefit to ask demand sue for recover and receive of and from any person or persons indebted all such sum or sums of money Debts and Demands whatsoever which are now or shall be due or owing unto me for or on account of the Estate aforesaid for Rents or Contracts or on any other account whatsoever and to have use and take all lawful ways and means in my name or otherwise for the recovery thereof by Attachment Arrest Distress or otherwise and to compound and agree for the same and Acquittances or other sufficient Discharges for the same for me and in my name to make seal and deliver and the said Gabriel Duvall is hereby authorised and empowered to sell and dispose of all such Lands and Tenements as the Legislature of Maryland shall restore in pursuance of the Articles of peace aforesaid for my use and Benefit and to make and Execute for me and in my name proper Deeds of conveyance for the same to the purchaser or purchasers and to do all other lawfull ways and means in my name or otherwise for the recovery thereof by Attachment Arrest Distress or otherwise and to compound and agree for the same and Acquittance or either sufficient Discharges for the same for me and in my name to make seal and deliver and the said Gabriel Duvall is hereby authorised and empowered to sell and dispose of all such Lands and Tenements as the legislature of Maryland shall restore in pursuance of the Articles of peace aforesaid for my use and Benefit and to make and Execute for me and in my name proper Deeds of conveyance for the same to the purchaser or purchasers and to do all other lawfull Acts and things whatsoever concerning the premisses as fully in every Respect as I myself might or could do were I personally present at the doing thereof ratifying and confirming and by these presents allowing whatsoever my said Attorney shall in my name lawfully do or cause to be done in and about the premisses In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this fourth Day of May in the year of our Lord One |
