192 On the back of the aforegoing deed were the following Endorsements to wit October 20.th 1783 Receiv'd of M.r David Weems the Sum of three thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds Current money being the consideration money within expressed Morgan Jones Richard Harrison Tho.s Tongue October 20 1783 Then came Morgan Jones before us two of the Magistrates for Ann Arundell County and acknowled the within mentioned land to be the right and Estate of the within named David Weems his heirs and Assigns for ever according to an Act of Assembly in that case made and provided 7 sides Richard Harrison Tho.s Tongue Recorded 30.th March 1784 Ex.d Know all men by these presents that we Sam.l Shekell & Edward Stonestreet of Prince Georges County Gentlemen are held and firmly bound unto the State of Maryland in the full and just Quantity of forty thousand pounds of Tobacco to be paid to the said State to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves our heirs Executors and Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our Seals and dated this fourth day of December Anno Domini 1783 The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound Sam.l Shekell shall diligently and carefully view and examine all Tobacco brought to any public Warehouse or Warehouses where he is appointed to be Inspector and all other Tobacco he shall be called upon to View and Inspect and that he will not Receive any Tobacco that is not in his Judgment Sound well Conditioned Merchantable and Clear of trash nor Receive pass or stamp any Tobacco or Hogshead of Tobacco prohibited by an act of Assembly Entitled for the Regulation of Tobacco and that he will pass stamp all Tobacco that is sound well Conditioned Merchantable and Clear of Trash and in all things well and faithfully discharge his duty in the Office of an Inspector According to the best of his Skill and Judgment and according to the directions of the Act of Assembly without fear favour affection malice or partiality and that he will well and faithfully Execute and perform the several duties required of him by this Act Otherwise to Remain and be in full force and Virtue in Law Signed Sealed & Delivered Sam.l Shekell (Seal) in the presence of Edw.d Stonestreet (Seal) John Hill Bryan Daley On the back of the aforegoing bond was thus written Viz.t Prince Georges County 4.th December 1783 John Hill and Brian Daley came before me one of the Commissioners of the Tax for the af.d County and made Oath that they were present at the execution of the within Bond and saw Samuel Shekell and Edward Stonestreet sign seal and deliver the same Given under my hand the day and year above written 5¾ sides John Contee Recorded 20.th March 1784 |
