11 he and they shall and may for ever hereafter Quietly and Peacebly have hould Possess and Injoy all and Singular the Premises freely and Absolutely Discharged of and from all Claims Charges and Incumbrances whatsoever the Rents and Services hereafter to grow due to the Lord Proprietary onely excepted and for prized In Testimony whereof the said James Smith hath hereunto set his hand and Seal the Day and Year first above Written Signed Sealed & Delivered R Barnhouse in the Presence of us John Biscoe James Smith (seal) On the Back of the aforegoing Deed was thus Endorsed Viz.t May y.e 18.th 1770 Received of the within Named James Smith the within Consideration Money P me James Smith Test R Barnhouse John Biscoe Maryland fs.t May the 18.th 1770 Then came the within named James Smith befoure us the Subscriber ^being^ two of his Lordships Justices for S.t Marys County and acknowledged the within Deed to be his Act and Deed for the use of the within Named William Loker according to the form of the Act of Assembly in that Case made & Provided Acknowledged before us the Day and Year afs.d R Barnhouse John Biscoe Saint Marys County to wit I hereby Certify that Mess.rs Richard Barnhouse and John Biscoe Gentlemen before whom the above Acknowledgement was made and who have thereto Subscribed their Names were at the day of the Date thereof & still are two of his Lordships Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid and to all Certificates given by them as such due Faith and Credit is and ought to be given as well in Courts of Justice as thereout In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Affixed the Publick Seal of the County aforesaid this fifth day of L S June Seventeen Hundred & seventy Benjamin Young Clk of 4¼ sides Recorded 18.th June 1770 Saint Mary's County Court X.d Know all men by these presents that We Samuel Preston Moore Charles Moore and Margaret Morris of Philadelphia in the Province of Pensylvania the aforesaid Samuel Preston Moore acting as Attorney for Thomas Lamar and John Scott of England and Robert Bissett of Madeira as well as in his own right Have Constituted & Appointed and by these presents do constitute and Appoint our Trusty and Loving friend Henry Hill of Philadelphia aforesaid to act for us and in our stead as follows Whereas we are possess'd of an undivided right to a certain Number of Negroes on a certain Plantation in Ann Arundel County in the Province of Maryland commonly known by the Name of the Hominy pot Quarter and whereas it is our Desire to give Freedom to all the said Negroes there in such manner as not to encumber our Estates hereafter we hereby empower him to take such Steps to effect that purpose as he shall Judge necessary giving and granting our said Attorney our whole and full Powers Strength and Authority to do in and about the Premises in as ample Manner as we could ourselves if personally there and one or more Attorneys under him to Constitute and Appoint and at Pleasure to revoke hereby ratifying holding and Allowing for firm & Effectual whatsoever he or they shall Legally do touching the Premises by Virtue hereof In Witness whereof we have ^hereunto^ our hands & Seals this twenty second Day of May in the tenth Year of his Majesty's reign Annoque Domini one thousand seven hundred and Seventy Sealed & Delivered Sam.l Preston Moore (seal) in the Presence of us James Wills Cha.s Moore (seal) Thomas Wise Margaret Morris (seal) |
