(523) shall & will warrant and forever defend by these Presents In Witness whereof the Parties have hereunto Set their hands & Seals the day and year first above written Sealed and Delivered In Presence of us John Shelton (Seal) W.m Nelson Eleanor Shelton (Seal) Rob.t Barret Nelson Bortuley On the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus Indorsed to wit Received on the day of the date of the above Indenture of M.rs Anne Catharine Green therein Named the Sum of twenty five Pounds Virginia Currency the £ 25 Consideration above Mentioned to be Paid Test John Shelton Virginia to wit By the Honble William Nelson Esquire one of his Majesty's Judges of the Supreme or General Court of the said Colony it is hereby Certified to all whom it may Concern that this day Personally appeared before me M.rs Eleanor Shelton the wife of M.r John Shelton and freely & Voluntarily Acknowledged the above Indenture to be her Act & Deed She being firs Examined by me apart from & out of the hearing of her said husband and Declaring She did the same Willingly without being induced thereto by Fear or threats of or ill usage by her said husband or Fear of his Displeasure In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Caused the Seal of the said Colony to be Affixed thereto this twenty ninth day of September One thousand Seven hundred & Sixty Eight to which aforegoing Deed was Annex'd the following Certificate W.m Nelson Virginia Sc Norborne Baron de Botetourt his Majesty's Lieutenant and Governor General of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia and Vice Admiral of the same To all ^to^ whom these Presents shall Come Greeting the Acknowledgment and Privy Examination of Elizabeth Shelton Wife of John Shelton of the Indenture between the said Shelton & his Wife of the One Part and Catharine Green of the Other Part hereunto Annexed is one of his Majestys Judges of the Supreme or General Court of this Colony and that full faith and Credit is and ought to be given to all things by him so Certified In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Caused the Seal of the said Colony to be Affixed at Williamsburg the third day of November One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Eight and in the Ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third The Great Botetourt Seal in Recorded the 11.th March 1769 Wax Appendant |
