       On the Back of the Aforegoing Letter of Attorney was thus Endorsed viz.t

                  At Annan the Tenth day of August One thousand seven hundred & sixty seven
       years Compeared In presence of us the Provost & Magistrates of the Burgh of Annan
       William Thomson Merchant in Annan Aged about Eighty Years And Robert Hay
       Merchant in Annan Aged Seventy years or thereby who severally made oath that they
       know and are Accquainted with Adam Carlyle formerly of Lymekills within designed  And that
       they also know Adam Carlyle formerly of Lymekills his Grandfather  And that the said
       Adam Carlyle had several Younger Brothers And it was Reported in the Country that
       William Carlyle the immediat Younger Brother of the said Adam Carlyle went over to Virginia
       or Maryland when he was Young and lived there all his days But never was married
       That none of the other Brother of the said Adam Carlyle of Lymekills left any Children that
       they the deponents every knew or heard of That the deponents also know and were well
       Acquainted with the deceast John Carlyle of Lymekills the eldest son & heir of the said deceast
       Adam Carlyle of Lymekills That they knew the said John Carlyle of Lymekills was married
       and had a Son but no other Children And that this son died unmarried And the said
       Adam Carlyle formerly of Lymekills had other sons besides the said John Carlyle of whom
       the second was Alexander Carlyle Father to the said Adam Carlyle now of Lymekills That this
       Alexander Carlyle went over to Virginia or Maryland to the said William Carlyle his Uncle
       where he lived till his death That he was married there as the deponents were informed and
       left two Sons of whom Adam Carlyle now of Lymekills was the Eldest That the deponents
       knows and are well Accquainted with the said Adam Carlyle now of Lymekills
       And that he is the Nearer & Lawfull Heir to the said William Carlyle his Grand
       Uncle that they knew of And the deponents knows of none nearer  And Deposces
       that they saw him the said Adam Carlyle Sign the Letter or power of Attorney in Favour
       of John Carlyle Esquire Merchant at Alexandria in Virginia this day And this is
       Truth as they shall Answer to God                              W.m Thomson

          To all and Sundry To whose Knowledge These presents shall come I John Anderson
       Esquire Provost & Chief Magistrate of the Burgh of Annan Certify & Attest that this
       day Personolly came and Appeared before me the before designed William Thomson and
       Robert Hay who severally made Oath and Deposed that the Several Matters and
       things mentioned and Contained in the Respective Affidavits before written Are truth
       And I hereby Certify that the said Deponents are persons of the best Cheracter To whose
       Affidavits all due Credits and belief ought to be Given In Faith & Testimony whereof I the
       said John Anderson have Subscribed this Certificate And I have Caused the seal of the
11⅓  Burgh to be hereunto Affixed  At Annan The Tenth day of August One thousand
       seven hundred and sixty seven Years And of His Magesties Reign the seventh Year
