       or Maryland Immediat Lawfull Younger Brother to the said Adam Carlyle my
       Grandfather and my Grand Uncle before the Said Magistrates of Annan dated the twenty
       Seventh day of May last and the Severall Services Retoured in the Court of Chancery at
       Edinburgh Conform to act of Parliament more fully Bears  And now Seeing
       that I am the only Lawfull and undoubted Heir in Generall to the said John Carlyle
       my uncle and to Adam Carlyle my Grandfather and also to the said William
       Carlyle my Grand uncle who dies possest of an Estate or Tract of Land (with Several
       other valueable Subjects) Called by the Name of Hopewell in the County of Summerset
       &c.a in Maryland or Virginia Aforesaid and which Estate or Estates was after the Death
       of my said Grand Uncle William Carlyle held by my said Father Alexander and Which
       I as heir to them as Aforesaid belong to me And as the said Estate or Estates and
       other means and Effects Lyes in Virginia or Maryland as aforesaid which Great
       Aistance with the Necessity of Business at home would would be Extreemly inconvenient
       for me to go Abroad to the forsaid places so as to Manage the same of myself and at
       my own pleasure  And Therefore having intire confidence in the fidility and Ability
       of John Carlyle Esq.r my Cusine German Merchant at Alexandria Virginia
       For managing the Trust aftermt.d Do therefore Nominal Constitute and Appoint
       the said John Carlyle my Cusine to be my Sole factor Agent Attorney and Chief Manager
       for me and in my Name And on my Account and for my behoof to Sell and Dispose
       of the said Estate or Estates or Tract of Land Called Hopewell and all other Estates or
       Effects Whatsoever that might Happen to pertain and Belong to the said William
       Carlyle my Grand Uncle or to the said Alexander Carlyle my Father at the time
       of there Deaths with full power warrant & Commission to him as my Agent
       and Attorney foresaid to call in Uplift and Receive all debts and other goods
       and Effects which might be nay ways Resting and Owing to my Said Grand
       Uncle or father at the time of there Deaths or that can be made Appear to have
       been so Resting & owing After the Same happened in Any Manner of way Whatsoever
       and to Raise and Carry on all or any Law suits that may be necessary for my Behoof
       in any of the American Collonies Either to Assist as Expences for Disposing of the said
       Estates or any part thereof or for other Advantageus uses & purposes which my said
       Agent Shall Judge most proper and Convenient and Upon payment to Grant Receipts
       & Acquittances for the same which shall be as Effectual & Sufficient as if the same had been
       done by myself and Genarelly to act and do in the premisses as fully and freely in ll
       Respects as I Could have done before Granting hereof or if personally present promising
       to hold firm and Staple all and whatsoever things the said John Carlyle my said
       Factor Agent and Attorney Lawfully does or causes to be done in the Premisses
       without Revocation In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal
       at Annan the teath day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred & Sixty
       Seven
