(374) by or from our said Naval Officers or any other persons on all or any of the aforesaid Branches of our Revenues And upon Receipt of any Money Bills of Exchange or other Effects Sufficient Discharges and Acquittances to give and Sign to the person or persons concerned or owing such Money Effects and Bills of Exchange And generally to Act do perform fullfil and accomplish according to the Instructions which have been or may be given him all and every other Act and Acts Thing and Things requisite and necessary for the Hor.o Sharpe due Execution performance and Justly Discharging the several respective Offices Powers and Authorities hereby given or granted him or intended to be given and granted to him And we do hereby ratify confirm and hold for good effectual and valid whatsoever the said Bennett Allen shall lawfully do or cause to be done in the Premisses Notwithstanding any Insufficiency or Defect in the words Expressions Clauses or Sentences of this our Commission and altho every particular Matter strictly requisite not herein strictly expressed And we do hereby further for a Compensation Salary and Encouragement to the said Bennett Allen for the Punctual sincere and faithful performance of the powers and Authorities hereby granted him and in Consideration of the pains Labour and Trouble he shall Take in the due Execution thereof Authorize direct and impower him to take receive and retain to and for his own use out of all such Monies Tobacco or other Effects as shall be received on any of the Accounts aforesaid arising from our Land Office or from our Manor and other Rents (except Quit Rents) and Fines and all other our property to be Collected by him (except out of such Monies or Bills of Exchange as shall arise or become due to us for the Duty of twelve pence per Hogshead and all Tobacco exported and fourteen pence per Ton on the Tonnage of Ships and other Vessells and also all Monies or Bills of Exchange arising due to us for our Quit Rents within our said Province) the sum of Ten pounds in the hundred and so at the same rate for a greater or lesser Quantity the Nett sum after Receipt and retainer as aforesaid by way of Commission or Salary being bona fide and actually paid to and received by us without any other or further charge Retainer Deduction or Abatement whatsoever And also the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds Sterling Yearly for Receiving and Remitting the Duties of twelve pence per Hogshead on Tobacco exported and fourteen pence per Ton on the Tonnage of Ships and also all Money or Bills of Exchange due to us for one Quit Rents within our said Province Provided always and it is the True intent and meaning of these presents that Notwithstanding any Thing herein before contained that the said Bennett Allen shall from Time to Time and at all Times obey execute and perform such rules and orders for his Conduct in the premisses as he shall receive from us Our Lieutenant Governor or Board of Officers appointed by our Instructions bearing Date the 22.d Day of March 1766 And |
