(373) Gassaway the wife of the within mentioned Thomas Gassaway and being privately examined by me out of the hearing of her said Husband declared that she relinquished her Right of Dower to the within Bargained and sold Land and that she was not induced thereto by Fears or Threats of Ill Usage of her said Husband or Fear of his Displeasure Dan of S.t Tho.s Jenifer Recorded the 26.th Day of March 1768 13 sides Ex.d Maryland fs Frederick Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore &c.a To all whom these Presents shall come Greeting Know Ye that we reposing special Trust and Confidence in the Capacity Care and Diligence of Bennett Allen of the City of Annapolis in our Province of Maryland Clerk Have made Constituted Ordained Authorized and Appointed and by these presents Do make Constitute Ordain Authorize and Appoint him the said Bennett Allen to be our Chief Agent Escheator and Receiver General of all our Rents Arrears of Rents Fines Forfeitures Tobacco, or Money for Land Warrants Ferrys Waifs Shays and Deodands of all Duties arising from or growing Due upon Exportation of Tobacco or Tonnage of Ships and all other Monies Tobacco or other Effects in any manner or ways now due or hereafter to grow due whether by Protested Bills of Exchange or otherwise to us within our said Province hereby Granting to the said Bennett Allen full Power and Authority to sell and dispose of all Lands Tenements and Hereditaments to us not Escheated or Forfeited to such person or persons as shall Agree and pay for them such reasonable Rates in Money as shall be agreed for with the Consent and Approbation of our Lieutenant Governor Also to Inspect into order Manage and Account for all and every other Branch and Branches of our Revenues within our said Province whether the same be or grow due by Particular Contract Condition of Plantations Act or Acts of Assembly or by Virtue of Our Royalties Rights Priviledges and Prerogatives within our said Province and for the better and more effectual Execution of the said Powers and Authorities hereby Granted We do further Authorize him the said Bennett Allen to give such Directions and Orders to the Naval Officers of our said Province as our Lieutenant Governor and he the said Bennett Allen shall Think fitt And the said Naval Officers are hereby required to obey him accordingly Hereby ordering and requiring him the said Bennett Allen to remit unto us for our proper use by the first and safest Opportunity all such Monies Effects or Bills of Exchange as shall arise grow due or be received (by) |
